Spellcasting Soda. What?
Okay, the energy potion concept makes a certain amount of contextual sense. Even Gamer Grub kind of hints vaguely in the direction of geeky relevance. I’m not sure what the, er, marketing wizards ate on their lembas when they came up with these particular offerings.
Admittedly, they do look awfully cool (says the guy who may or may not have kept otherwise-useless cards in his Magic: The Gathering decks because they had good art. *cough* Elven Ranger *cough*).
We all know that getting by on looks alone is an awesome idea.
Hold on, I got some sarcasm on my keyboard. Click through the break while I clean this up.
One other mark in the Jones’ folks favor is right there on every one of their labels: “pure cane soda.” Yes, there are certainly lots of better beverage options than sugary soft drinks. However, if you’re going to have one, steering fully clear of high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is certainly a +WIS decision. Jones goes one step better, using minimally-processed cane sugar (as well as being pretty up-front about using as many natural ingredients as they can gather).
Of course, much like the actual potions in the games we play (whether they’re with dice and pencils, cards and tokens, or keyboards and pixels), there’s no hint given as to what these D&D-inspired concoctions actually taste like. Have any of you tried these particular variants? We’ve had a few different varieties of Jones’ offerings over the years, and they have tended to be pretty tasty.
I’m not exactly anyone’s idea of a soft-drink connoisseur, and, despite enjoying moderately good beer, I still quail a bit at $10.99 for a six-pack or $18.99 for a dozen (plus shipping and handling), even though this is less than their standard custom-label rate.

Jones soda does have a reputation of making some tasty stuff…and some stuff that, well, let’s not go into that.
My friend bought the Dwarven Draught and he said it’s root beer. I’d definitely drink that.
I’m sure fizzy water and cane sugar is healthier than fizzy water and HFCS. But I can’t quite see why anyone who cares about whether what they drink is healthy or not would choose to drink either of them?
