Sometimes you think you really have this diet/lifestyle figured out. All is well, you are staying on track, then something in your motivation or plan gets nuked and it is hard to keep playing along without a re-roll. I think we have all been
there. Friday comes around…time for happy hour so you skip the gym. Partake in a few beers, some chips or wings, etc. That little bit can throw things off and next thing you know it’s Sunday night you realize you are off track and will have to start again on Monday. Re-roll.
Just know you are not the only one. This is a frequent trend and it takes a lot of trial and error to figure out exactly what works, both in diet and exercise, for you. Some people swear by one routine while others swear by something completely different.
But no matter how much some may disagree with each other, the common theme is the re-start/re-roll of the diet and fitness routine they are/were doing at one point in order to try another approach, or even just to be more strict.
In an article from Dietblog.com they outline 10 ways to restart your diet after a break.
The 10 ways they suggest consist of organizing your morning, focusing on fruit, making lunch special, trying new recipes, clearing the junk, weighing everything, writing everything down, setting goals, finding a buddy, and staying motivated. All of these are extremely useful.
Following WeightWatchers.comĀ® points I already weigh/measure just about everything I eat and keep track of it all. So that covers the organizing your morning, weighing everything and writing everything down portions enough for me.
Focusing on fruit is something I also already do. Being vegetarian, and trying to have healthy options in my day, I already usually bring at least an apple and banana with me each day. On top of that I typically work in a few carrots, a cucumber, blueberries, and an orange (from time to time) as well. Helps to mix up the day a bit. Not only that, becoming vegetarian also pushed me to try new recipes as cutting out the meat makes meals a bit boring, unless the meat is replaced instead.
Setting goals is another one I frequently do in order to stay motivated. Leaving out this, adding that. Trying for a specific amount of time spent on cardio or a specific calorie burn (according to the machines at the gym anyways) to hit before calling it a night.
And finally, finding a buddy…that one has really helped me out. In the past I have had partners in dieting and it really helped out to have someone to answer to in a way. It was nice to have someone to try to keep up with or someone who, if they are having a rough week, I can try to be an example for by sticking to the routine so they know they are not alone. Luckily I have someone I am partnered up for during my most recent re-roll and, along with following these other tips, it has made this most recent quest for further fitness go quite a bit more smoothly.
