Ding Grats

We all face challenges to our weight loss efforts and obstacles to our abilities to lead healthy lifestyles. So each week The Geeks gather to consider progress towards goals. It keeps us honest with ourselves and those reading to see exactly where we stand.

This is not limited to just the staff here at ShrinkGeek. We want to hear success stories from our readers too. So if you’re inspired by us, think we’re crazy, or just want to publicly state that you’ve made accomplishments too, send an e-mail with your story to ding at shrinkgeek dot com.

Scott Damiano: Oof…fell off a bit. Gained the “new girlfriend 10lbs” it seems. Snuck up on me since it was all due to snacking and slacking on the workouts.

As for workouts, I am just getting back into things these past two weeks after recovering from hospital time and all. Since I had been out of my normal routine for a few weeks and had to start over I was able to try new things instead of getting stuck back in a rut. Same with weights, I have been mixing it up more.

My short term goal is the low 160s (pre-girlfriend weight) which is about 10lbs from here. Longer term is about 145-150 (depending on muscle mass I take on). Even longer term is to stay at that 145-150 for ever, considering 2 years a sign that I have finally made a ‘permanent’ lifestyle change.

Lexy Kassan: It’s taken a couple of weeks, but I’m back on track. I had traveled out of state for a few days to be in a friend’s wedding. It was a fabulous time but being part of the wedding party seems to mostly be an exercise in eating. Between the bachelorette dinner and party, bridal luncheon, rehearsal dinner food at the wedding itself plus cake, and post-wedding brunch, it seemed nigh on impossible to escape. I put on about 2-3 pounds in the course of four days.

My trick since then has been to ignore my sweet tooth at night. I almost always want some sort of dessert after dinner, even if it’s just a bowl of somewhat-sugary cereal. Rather than indulging in 200+ calories of cereal and milk, I have either found distractions or grab a 40 calorie no sugar added Fudgsicle. The end result of these efforts is that, for the first time in months, the scale showed me as under 170 pounds yesterday.

Michael McGreevy: I’ve completed my second week of training for the Team Weight Watchers 5k challenge and I’m also working my way through the EA Active 30-day challenge (which I’ll be writing about here).  I’ve been working out a bit extra the last few days attempting to work off the extra calories I had over the weekend (there’s a lot of WW POINTS in Pizza!).

Krystalle Voecks: I don’t have “progress” to report, so much as a statement that I’m getting started. Of all the people here at ShrinkGeek, I’m the newest on the journey towards making a positive lifestyle change. I am flying out shortly to cover E3, which will (I’m sure) present a variety of problems in terms of food choices. That said, I will be doing my best to make as wise of choices as possible when someone else is picking the menu. I’m also going to be doing a daily progress blog, which will be on my personal domain. Anyone interested is welcome to follow along with me there.
