You know geek fitness is starting to make an inroads when it’s the subject of online comics.
I can’t honestly say the thought of engaging in some sort of excessively limber digital tryst with Yourself Fitness’ Maya ever crossed my mind (but, then again, now that the subject has been broached, Rule 34 [Potentially NSFW Link Alert!] means that somewhere, right now, Rafe/Maya slashfic is being written even as we speak. Egads.).
Obviously, we’re kidding around a bit with this, as are Tim Buckley and Jennie Breeden, but the underlying message is one that bears attending to: Just because we’re making a conscious decision to be healthier and more fitness-oriented, we shouldn’t become completely absorbed by it. I’ll be the first to admit, I can get sucked in and fixated on trying to reach a goal too quickly; this can alienate the people around you (because then you’re boring, and only talk about one thing all the time; to the folks I’ve been That Guy to, I’m going to be better about it, I promise) or lead to injury from overtraining or just trying to do too much, too soon.
As with anything else, taking things in moderation keeps us safe and sane. Just like developing a character’s powers or grinding out rep with some faction or other, getting healthier, stronger, or whatever your goal is takes time, and doesn’t happen over the course of a couple marathon sessions.
This isn’t like skilling up a new profession with a stockpile of crafting materials, or dropping a ton of $game_currency on uber-gear. There is no shortcut to wellness.
There is especially no shortcut into your yoga teacher’s spandex-clad booty. However, there may be cheat codes….
Just. One. More. Level Rep….
